Behind Closed Doors: Esser Wishes He Could Be More GangsterThis summer, armed with infectious tunes and rockabilly style, British popster Esser is invading America. And after releasing his album Headlock in April, Esser is ready for anything... including getting grilled by Buzznet.
Buzznet: Do you have a morning bathroom routine? Esser: I don't have a routine because when I'm home sometimes I can't be bothered to wash. When we're on tour though I make sure to moisturize and dry my hair. I have to dry my hair upside down to get the height. That's the trick. Buzznet: Who was your first kiss? How old were you? Esser: The first proper kiss was probably 12. I remember it was awkward. We kept bashing teeth and she had bad breath. Sorry Stacy. Buzznet: What do you have hanging on your walls? Esser: Pictures of the queen and a picture of Crosby Stills and Nash. Buzznet: Do you have any fetishes? Any pet-peeves? Esser: I'm really into smooth surfaces. Buzznet: What is the first quality you look for in the opposite sex? Esser: Probably eyes. Buzznet: What do you wear to sleep at night? Esser: I wear the weird t-shirts we had printed once that were so bad no one bought them. Also I wear one of those if I don't have any clean clothes. Buzznet: Do you have a nickname? Esser: No, but the drummer in my band has an R&B alter ego. He's called Lubé Smoove. Buzznet: What was your first job? What was your worst job? Esser: I worked in a cardboard factory and it was really bad. I had to measure the gaps in flatpack boxes. Buzznet: If you could be in the Summer Olympics which sport would you compete in? Esser: Darts if that was actually an Olympic sport. Buzznet: What song do you know every word to, but are totally embarrassed that you know so well? Esser: Outhere Brothers "Boom Boom Boom"!! Buzznet: What text message or voicemail do you regret sending to someone so much that you will never forget doing it? Esser: 'Yes Sam I'd love you to be my manager' Buzznet: Which era do you most wish you lived in and why? Esser: This is something I think about quite a lot actually and I think possibly 1950's or mid 70's. I'd watch the first Buddy Holly shows or hang out with Malcolm McClaren and Don Letts. Buzznet: Do you have any scars? If so what happened? Esser: The PE teacher made me jump over brambles, they caught my leg. I've got a scar on my inner thigh. I wish I could tell you something a bit more gangster, but I can't. Buzznet: If we gave you sourdough bread and you could put anything on your sandwich what would it be? Esser: Right now, I'd just like some vegetables. Probably portabello mushrooms. Buzznet: When you hear the word "oatmeal" what is the very first thing that comes to your mind? Esser: Porridge.
