LIGHTS Talks With Buzznet About Jack Nicholson, Being Canadian, Poison Ivy and "The Listening"
Listen up, because the highly anticipated album The Listening from Canadian alternative singer/songwriter, LIGHTS, hits stores today. Catch up with her on release day. Get to know LIGHTS personally and musically, as she answers a few of her fans on Buzznet's questions.
MusicalxHeartxBeats: What do you enjoy most about being a Canadian?
LIGHTS: Canadians have a rep for being really nice people, and I'm proud to be part of that. But we also have Tim Horton's which rules, and we own a whole race of geese. Pretty bad ass.
MollyMisery: Who's your favourite comic book villain of all time?
LIGHTS: I have to say Poison Ivy. She's a Marvel character and I'm more of a DC fan, but she's super cool. She's delicate and deadly, like a venus fly trap!
MNCC: What's the story behind the name "Lights"?
LIGHTS: It originates from my last name Poxleitner (pox-light-ner) and it just became a nick name over time, eventually I legally made it my first name.
RumoredNights21: If you could do a duet with any band/artist, who would it be and what song would you sing?
LIGHTS: If I could do a one time duet on stage with any artist, I would sing "Rudy" with Supertramp, and it would be epic.
MsEdgeCore: What can't you live without?
LIGHTS: If someone took away my voice I might die.
NewAgeAmazon: What did you think about the female representation on Warped this year?
LIGHTS: Pretty stoked! It was pretty varied, from metal chicks to girls that can shred, to straight up dance pop ladies. We had a good bunch of girls this year, and everyone got along really well, which is generally rare for girls.
ChristieXoX: Was it hard making friends when you were a kid because you moved around a lot and were home schooled?
LIGHTS: Even to this day I have a hard time letting myself become really close with people, and I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing. There are very few people I really need close to me in my life. The bright side is I am pretty good at managing long distance friendships as a result.
PlanetMars: With your new rise in fame, what's the thing you miss most doing everyday that you can't anymore?
LIGHTS: I used to love to just sit in a coffee shop and read a book or sit on my laptop. Last time I did that a little autograph line formed at my table, I felt like a lonely spectacle lol!
FrizzayFace: What would you be doing if you weren't in a band?
LIGHTS: I would love to be in video game design, creating worlds for people to lose themselves in.
JFStar123: Who is your celebrity crush?
LIGHTS: Jack Nicholson, he doesn't take crap from anyone.
RonnieHoffNung: What musicians do you want to meet but haven't had the chance to?
LIGHTS: I'd almost rather not meet the musicians that I respect the most, because I don't know if I want to know them on a personal level. I kind of would rather keep my perception of them purely based on the music they create. Or maybe I'm just afraid of disappointment!
KidBee13: Be My BFF? What do you think you miss about playing small clubs in Toronto now that you've gotten so much bigger?
LIGHTS: Intimate shows are fun, but bigger shows are even more fun! The energy is unreal. I miss being able to meet every single person that came to the show afterwards though.
Risa13: What does your German tattoo mean?
LIGHTS: "Now and always have the blessing of the father, and stay blameless until the end."
SugarPlumSoup: Which of your songs is your favourite?
LIGHTS: At the moment it's “Quiet.”
JDang: If you could tour with any band (dead or alive) who would it be?
LIGHTS: Joy Division!
