Senses Fail lead singer gets vocal about P!ATD ...

Buddy Nielsen the blunt singer of Senses Fail recently decided to vocally analyze the emo, christian, and punk music scene. He made a few bold claims that I thought make for an interesting read and conversation. Nielsen tells how he feels about Panic! At the Disco, saying, "so many bands feel it's necessary to look intelligent, and create an image and credibility. The kids in P!ATD claim they are into Morrisey and the Smiths. We’ve always been honest about our inspiration. We like Jimmy Eat World, Promise Ring and the Get Up Kids. Bands worry too much about their image, and its lame."

I personally can not tolerate the music of Senses Fail and if I was a lead singer of a band I would probably claim that my influences and taste were more along the musical talents of Morrisey and the Smiths vs. Jimmy Eat World and Get Up Kids. I do have to agree with the opinion that bands worry too much about their image, but then again Senses Fail could really take a few style tips from Ryan Ross or Brendon Urie. Hey if you can't sound good, you might as well look good!

Nielsen did not stop at dissing P!ATD, he went on to discuss more emo bands such as Fall Out Boy.We’re very honest about who we are,” says Nielsen. “There’s bands like Fall Out Boy who are huge, so far into American pop culture, and way beyond representing any scene but act as if they’re small. I really like those guys, but I wish he (Pete Wentz) would take responsibility and be more outspoken about things I know he cares about. GO ahead and sell dolls to kids, but don’t pretend you’re something you’re not."

I am not sure where Nielsen has been for the last year, but Fall Out Boy certainly does not act small and they certainly do represent represent! They might cover up with way too much makeup, but they certainly put themselves out there and contribute to society and the "scene."

Finally, Nielsen touches upon the ever so sensitive subject, Christian rock bands that proliferate punk rock. I think titles really suck. In the states there’s a big Christian and straight edge punk scene. Kids will go out just to see these bands, who are mostly Evangelists, and they preach intolerance to the kids. They claim they’re punk, but they aren’t tolerant of all human beings and different lifestyles and religions, and this is ignorant.

Aren't Christian rock bands supposed to preach Jesus, not punk! It sounds like Buddy Nielsen should start praying for a stylist, a new iPod, a diary, and silent microphone.
What do you think?

MTV Mondays is the new TGIF

Most TV watchers will agree that MTV is certainly lacking the music and the videos, but what they do have is a compilation of about every type of reality show you could ask for and you can take it all in on Monday nights. It makes sense to program a package of shows on Monday night, considering Mondays are the start of the work and school week and most people want to sit back and relax and taken in some non-sense television. So with that said, this Monday (8/27) I am certainly going to be sitting at a friends house watching The Hills and then watching the premiere of  the new reality show 'Life of Ryan,' starring skater boy cutie, Ryan Sheckler!

If you have not yet heard of Ryan or seen the trailer for the show, then make sure to check it out here on Buzznet.

** Also, while I have you here on the subject of MTV, you might as well watch a few more trailers for your pleasure. **

da' Beastie Boys

I shouldn't have expected anything less, but for some reason I did not know what to expect. Tonight (8/20) at the Greek Theatre, the Beastie Boys rocked the mic'. They sounded so ridiculous (in a positive light) and they kept the crowd so alive. Between their stage presence, the lights, the accuracy in rhythm, and the energy of the people, all I can really say is OMG, man Oh My Gosh.

I actually believe they were filming a DVD or making a music video, because the massive screens in the theatre projected the most on point and animated show.

Sorry if you could not make it. I did have amazing seats, but my camera would not zoom close enough to capture the show for you. Just make note that the Beastie Boys have still got it going on.

The trick to remaking the original 1978 horror film "Halloween" -- and still keeping it classic -- might just be the use of some of the vintage musical tracks in the movie. I am sure many of you are going to find the soundtrack for the August 31 release of Rob Zombie's "Halloween" quite the treat.

Elvis Presley still has fans 'All Shook Up'

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the death of the King of Rock 'n Roll, Elvis Presley. Some may remember Elvis for his looks, others might remember him for his commanding stage presence and plethora of pelvic thrusts; but everyone should honor him for defining the rock 'n roll revolution.

Most of you just like me only get to experience Elvis through the records you have collected or the occasional radio play of his music. In my opinion, Elvis was one-of-a-kind: Musicians are really not made like him anymore. He pretty much has the whole package -- brilliant performer, astounding looks, bad boy image, powerful voice. Elvis is my rock god ... who is yours?

Elvis was the real deal. Do yourself a favor and go listen to some of my favorites:
TROUBLE
DONT CRY DADDY
IN THE GHETTO
HURT
MAMA LIKED THE ROSES
ONE BROKEN HEART FOR SALE
NIGHT RIDERS

Buzznet member Caitlin Romance also remembers Elvis -- and gives those of you who don't already know a little insight into the King:

Since age three i can remember my love of Elvis. His music is before my time but none the less revolutionary. He was the very first Rockstar. The first to mix things up and go outside the comfort zone of many americans. A sex symbol and a role model all in one.Getting to the place he was when he lived was not easy he was called valgur and put down, but with a passion for his music he made it to the top. Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977 in his Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee at the young age of 42. Elvis will always be the ONE and ONLY King
xoxo,
CaitlinRomance
