September 28, 2007Ville Valo Gets Personal with Buzznet
It's 6:30 p.m. Finland time and Ville Valo is at his home in Helsinki just after returning from Spain. He's been on a lengthy press tour, but it is nearly over and on October 18th he will begin the HIM Tour in the U.S.
Ville just chatted with Buzznet and told us all about Venus Doom, his family and what inspires him. He also offered us insight into his celebrity friendships (Kat Von D and Bam -- to name a few). While his bandmates are avid chess players, Ville's passionate about books. He's currently reading Rat Scabies and The Holy Grail -- which he referred to as "the punk rock treatment on the DaVinci Code." Edgar Allan Poe is another one of his favorites to read in his spare time, especially on airplanes. When I asked Ville to describe Venus Doom in three-to-five words, he responded, "Love. Metal. Again." Way to be cryptic, Ville! But its always been your enigmatic side that draws us to you so. He grew up listening to ACDC, Iron Maiden and Peter Steel from Type O Negative, he tells us. He's also been a big fan of Reggae since his teens and has alot of Jamaican idols -- such a fan in fact that at age 14 he started to grow dreadlocks. Ville's very much a family man and when asked what he misses most when he's away from home, he quickly responded "....my guitar.....my mom, my dad and my little brother." Words of wisdom to all of you from this Rock God, "Keep on reading your books and be nice to your parents!" For all of you who wear contact lenses, put 'em away and break out your glasses....Ville's likes his girls in frames (wink wink).

September 7, 2007Mike Lewis of Lostprophets shares his VMA opinions
Are you ever curious about what one band thinks of another and which bands actually listen and respect eachother? Buzznet wants to know all, so Mike Lewis the rhytm guitarist of Lostprophets shared his opinions based on the 5 questions DJ Rossstar provided him (below). Read through his then share your opinion in the VMAS forum.
1. Do you still think the MTV VMA's are as important to the music world as they used to be? Answer by Mike Lewis: I dont think MTV or music channels in general are as important these days.. Its almost as if the music video is dead.. All the music channels play now is reality shows. Music television that doesn't play music.. quite the oxymoron! 2. Who are you looking forward to seeing perform this year? Who was your favorite VMA performer of all time? Answer by Mike Lewis: To be honest i never really watch them and i have no idea whos playing this year. The whole show is usually just a bunch of people reading autocue very very badly and looking extremely awkward. I enjoyed sarah silverman hosting the movie awards this year, at least she had a personality. Britney when she had the snake was pretty cool, i remember that one.. 3. If you could choose the performance line up for the VMAS , who would you choose? Answer by Mike Lewis: oh god knows... as long as the black eyed peas or fergie was nowhere near it i'm pretty easy going, then again she might piss her pants again. JT is always fun to watch, and britney would have to be there just to see what the fuck shes gonna do next! 4. Who are you routing for in these categories? - Category 1: Best New Artist Amy Winehouse: "Rehab," "You Know I'm No Good" Carrie Underwood: "Before He Cheats" Gym Class Heroes: "Clothes Off," "Cupid's Chokehold/ Breakfast in America" Lily Allen: "Alfie," "Smile," "LDN" Peter Bjorn and John: "Young Folks" Answer by Mike Lewis: I'd back Lily Allen out of that list.. her dad is rad! - Category 2: Best Group Fall Out Boy: "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race," "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs" Gym Class Heroes: "Clothes Off," "Cupid's Chokehold/ Breakfast in America" Linkin Park: "What I've Done" Maroon 5: "Makes Me Wonder" White Stripes: "Icky Thump" Answer by Mike Lewis: Fall Out Boy cos they’re nice chaps 5. If you were nominated for an MTV VMA, which award would you most want to win and who would you thank? Answer by Mike Lewis: Best Haircut. My Hairdresser.

It's a Small World Afterall at the House of Blues DISNEY BAN MACHINE HEAD Disney have banned the band Machine Head! The band was due to play at the House Of Blues in Anaheim, which is on property owned by Disneyland. The corporation decided 48 hours before the scheduled performance of Machine Head to evaluate the band, and well, the evaluation did not result happily ever after. Live Nation quickly turned around an alternate plan and the band will now be playing at the Glasshouse in Pomona, CA on 9/7/07 to start off the Black Tyranny Tour. "While the enactment of this new blanket rule applies to all upcoming heavy metal shows at the House Of Blues Anaheim (with some metal bands having been banned from performing on name alone), Machine Head is the first band to actually have tickets go on sale, and remain on sale for 2 months, before intense pressure and vague threats of liability from the Corporation left the promoter with no choice but to remove the show from the venue." So basically what all of this means is Disney might just reject metal altogether. I personally am curious what questions are asked during this evaluation process and is this going to become a trend in process? Isn't an entertainment venue supposed to cater to the attendees and the music fans? For Panasonicyouth's opinion on this matter visit here.

September 5, 2007THE HIP-HOP SHOWDOWN: Kanye West vs. 50 Cent![]() ![]() ![]() Rolling Stone’s next cover documents the hip-hop story of the year: Kanye West and 50 Cent, whose new albums are coming out on the same date, September 11th. "My first album was the highest-selling LP of 2003," 50 Cent says, pointing to the fact that 2003's Get Rich or Die Tryin' moved more than 800,000 copies in the four days after it dropped. He goes on to note that his follow-up, The Massacre, was the second-highest-selling album of 2005. " 50 Cent has locked down the G-UNIT following and will always have respect from everyone who has been shot 8 times. Kanye West's new album titled 'Graduation' reaches out to even the most indie listening hipsters, with samples from Daft Punk, P.Y.T, and even a little John Mayer. It is pretty interesting how having the same release date as an artist that might be considered a competitor can very much effect both the reputation of the artists and the record sales. For Kanye West & 50 Cent I really can not make any predictions on who is going to sell more records, but what I can say is that they both are going to have some serious competition come September 18th, when Chamillionaire shows up with the 'Ultimate Victory.' WHAT DO YOU THINK? THE HIP-HOP SHOWDOWN: Who do you predict is going to sell more albums? On September 11th 2007, Kanye West & 50 Cent's new albums both drop. Rolling Stone is considering this the battle of the year and Buzznet is just stoked, because it is going to make for some interesting news in the hip-hop world. Tell us what you think.
