Blake Lewis' Best of 2007

Blake Lewis' playlist is not what you would think it would be in 2007.

Top Songs in 2007:

1. 311
"8:16 AM"
Why: Its very Jazzy, and every time I hear that song it makes me think of summer time in Seattle driving in my white t-top camero...One of my favorite albums is  Grassroots by 311.

2. BT
"Running Down the Way Up"
Why: One of my favorite musicians of all time. Got the song in 1999 while in I was traveling in Europe...the female vocalist is amazing and it opened my eyes to great vocal production.

3. Bjork
"Joga"
Why: The poetry of the lyrics and the counter melody of the streamline is like 2 songs being combined into one....Very Beautiful.

4. The Roots
"100% Dundee"
Why: The Beat boxing: Blackthoughts is my favorite MC.

5. Common Market
"PUSH"
Why: Real true hip hop. Favorite Seattle hip hop (Ra Scion and dj Sabzaee: went to junior high and high school with sabzaee)

6. Michael Jackson
"Leave Me Alone"
Why: Favorite album of all time...That song...great chorus and just an amazing song....

7. Jill Scott
"Getting in the Way"
Why: This is my favorite live album. The arrangement of this song is what I love...they do it half time and then do it double time...they end up doing the full song twice which is so amazing.

8. The Mob Law
"Save Me"
Why: Every song is so raw...The Mob Law exerts so much energy from people.  Best unsigned band in Seattle. They are like 311 but more punk.

9.  Fiona Apple
"The First Taste"
Why: This is one of the most beautiful love songs written..Fiona is a beautiful poet. The way she uses her metaphors is one of a kind. There is no poet like Fiona Apple. It’s very Jazzy...

10. Maroon 5
“The Sun”
Why: This is such a funky sound...Sounds like Steavie Wonder. Sealed my faith that good pop can still be written and still be out in the mainstream. This is Prince, Michael Jackson all into  one. Very sexy.

Tarina Tarantino = glitter, pink hair, sparkles, jewels ... oh my!

I recently attended the Tarina Tarantino celebration for the official launch of her new Tokyo Hardcore collection and catalogue. The event was absolutely fabulous, with an emphasis on the word fabulous. Not only is Tarina's store sparkly and enchanting, but the room is filled with the most aesthatically pleasing dressed group of people.

The host of the party was actually Davey Havok, since he, after all, is the star model along with Jeffree Star in the Tokyo Hardcore catalogue. To drop a few names ... Audrey Kitching, Matthew Lush, Clint CatalystAndy Garcia, Perez Hilton and Jade Puget all were at the event. Hands down I was the most boring-looking person there: Without a tutu or pink hair to stand out, I may as well have been the valet. Actually, even the valet had bright pink ties on -- so adorable!

Tarina's jewelry is infused with shine and sparkle. Some of it is quite edgy and other pieces are classical and elegant, pretty much leaving something for everyone to enjoy with their own personal style. I personally had my eye all night on this heart chain necklace with crystal charms and the girl who was wearing it probably thought I was looking at her chest all night.

I definitely suggest you check out Tarina's jewels, which you can find on her website Tarinatarantino.com. The Tokyo Hardcore catalogue will blow your mind -- so if you can't afford a necklace, be sure to grab the catalogue, because it tells a story; and in itself it is a piece of art.

Go to Tarina's Buzznet page if you would like to see a video from the making of the Tokyo Hardcore catalogue. Also, be sure to check out the video of Tarina in Milan, as she gives you a look at her new store in Italy.

For more photos from the event go here.

I am currently under the influence of Paramore ....

... and serioussly blown away by my new(er) found appreciation of Paramore.  I more or less just wanted to confess that a year ago I thought they were over rated and now I kind of just can't get enough. While I have had the chance to see them a total of 6 times over the past year, seeing them twice today set the record straight for me.

I finally feel a little bit part of the RIOT! and I very much have a 'crushcrushcrush' on Hayley Williams vocals.Today (11.14) I went with Breesays to see Paramore at a private show in the Helio Store in Santa Monica, CA. It was very intimate, they played a total of three songs and performed for about a total of only 25 people- myself & Breesays being two of them :)

Paramore private show on 11/14/07 in Santa Monica, CA - Photo Hosted at BuzznetParamore private show on 11/14/07 in Santa Monica, CA - Photo Hosted at Buzznet

I must say that I give mad props to photographers that go shoot bands they really enjoy live and actually manage to get quality photos. I struggled to keep one eye shut, shoot shoot shoot and still sing a long to the oh-so-catchy 'Misery Business'. So bare with me and enjoy.

Anyway... I just got back from the Paramore show at the Wiltern in downtown Los Angeles and I am ready to crashcrashcrash. I caught up with the band for a little bit backstage after their show. They are so cute! I found out that both Hayley and Jeremy check out Buzznet all the time. Jeremy's girlfriend is constantly sending him links to photos on Buzznet and Hayley is amazed that a new photo is posted of her almost every 2-3 minutes.

While I wish I could tell you more, you are just going to have to ask them questions yourself and hope they answer by dropping them notes on their profile on Buzznet right here.
