Tristan Prettyman's plans for Valentines Day

Buzznet: Any specific plans for Valentine's Day this year? If so who are you spending it with and where?

Tristan: Oh yeah boy oh boy, I have some hot hot hot spicy, saucy plans for Valentine's Day!
I’ll be playing a show in Tempe, Arizona playing the Marquee with G. Love and Special Sauce....

Buzznet: If you were to stay at home this Valentine's Day and watch a movie with a loved one, what movie would you watch and why?

Tristan: I would watch "Knocked Up" because that is just a great movie.  Or Anchorman.  Something funny.  I can only imagine how many people said The Notebook....

Buzznet: Have you ever received a love letter from someone or have you ever wrote a love letter to someone? If so who was it from or too and what did you or that person say?

Tristan: One year my boyfriend sent me the cutest little package while I was on the road, full of heart candies in a little personalized prescription bottle with a sweet little note and a photo...that was awesome.  I also broke up with someone on Valentine’s Day.  Looking back on it that was not something I am proud of.  That might be the meanest thing I have ever done but I was being honest!  Speaking of honest, I honestly haven't had the best luck with Valentine's Day so luckily this year my special someone's moms birthday is on valentines day so that takes the pressure off.

Buzznet: Are you telling anyone in particular you love them this Valentine's Day? If so who is it and what makes this person deserve your love?

Tristan: I think I will just tell my special someone how awesome they are and how thankful I am to have been able to spend so much time getting to know them before I go on the road.  They are truly awesome...as awesome as it gets :)

Buzznet: What do you do when trying to set the mood for a romantic date? What does the date consist of, where does it take place, what do you wear, cook, listen too, go?

Tristan: Let’s see.  The other night I cooked my special someone dinner.  We had a nice candlelight dinner at home with wine and food. That’s pretty much as good as it gets.  I don’t think I can answer the question about what I wear when I am trying to set the mood for a romantico noche...but I never let him down :)

Brandon Phillips from The Architects' plans for Valentine's Day

Buzznet:
Any specific plans for Valentine's Day this year? If so who are you spending it with and where?

Brandon: My wife and I will be joining our cult-leader and an un-named teenage street urchin in an un-air-conditioned storage building in Juarez, Mexico this Valentine's Day.

Buzznet: If you were to stay at home this Valentine's Day and watch a movie with a loved one, what movie would you watch and why?

Brandon: I would watch "Patton" starring George C. Scott while my wife does our taxes. If you asked her, she would say we were watched "Oral Asians #13" and doing Wild Turkey shots everytime someone moans on screen.

Buzznet: Have you ever received a love letter from someone or have you ever wrote a love letter to someone? If so who it from or too and what did you or that person say?

Brandon: I was in love with a girl once who went away to a fine arts boarding school out of state. I wrote her about six hundred letters per week in which I would hide little anagrams about how much I was enamored of her. If memory serves, she wrote back with somewhat less frequency. Sometime in her Sophomore year she came out of the closet, started dating girls and switched her major from Ballet Performance to Set Design/Stagecraft.

Buzznet: Are you telling anyone in particular you love them this Valentine's Day? If so who is it and what makes this person deserve your love?

Brandon: My wife, my dogs and our cult-leader... because they all tell me what to do, who to murder and how to live my life better!

Buzznet: What do you do when trying to set the mood for a romantic date? What does the date consist of, where does it take place, what do you wear, cook, listen too, go?

Brandon: Honestly now, no smar-assed-bullshit- First thing is you have to dress like a dapper motherfucker. She should look nice and shit, but you need to radiate masculine sexuality like Brando in "Waterfront". Better yet- go rent "Scent of A Woman" starring Al Pacino and learn something from the cinema that you can use in real life. Second, a date is only off to a good start if you pick her up somewhere - at her work, at her mom's house, at her sister's place. If you live together, you must not start out the evening changing clothes and getting ready at your shared house/apt. When the date is "over" it should mean hitting a hotel room after a little nightcap of Hennessy from a brown paper bag. Your house is a collection of all your messes and responsibilities and you need to avoid dragging that shit into your romantic outing. Nex- Chili's is not a nice restaurant. As a matter of face, if you think you can make it out of a place spending less then $150.00 on dinner and drinks then it's not a nice restaurant. I'm no millionaire, but I know how to squirrel away some bread for a decent dinner. Finally and most crucially- a decent dinner means champagne, three courses with a bottle of win followed by an after-dinner drink like Cognac or Armagnac AT A MINUMUM (if you wat to get in my pants, it will take something like seven courses and two bottles of wine. I like Chateu Lafite from the late 1970's) ... if you doubt me on any of this, just go work a few Valentines Days in a restaruant and see which type of dudes are clearly not getting any after dinner (cheapskates who wear white socks witha  dark grey suit that needs pressing and whine about the market price of lobster) and which dudes are barely able to get their dates out to the door before the shagging starts (me, my brothers, our friends who know what's up).

Mark Wilkerson from Course of Nature's plans for Valentine's Day

Mark Wilkerson with wife Melissa Joan Hart and son Mason

Buzznet: Any specific plans for Valentine's Day this year? If so who are you spending it with and where?

Mark: No specific plans. I am going to spend it with my wife who will be 2 weeks from having our second child. Most likely, I will cook for her and be getting her whatever she needs.

Buzznet: If you were to stay at home this Valentine's Day and watch a movie with a loved one, what movie would you watch and why?

Mark: Whatever the wife wants to watch. Probably an Audrey Hepburn movie, because she loves her.

Buzznet: Have you ever received a love letter from someone or have you ever wrote a love letter to someone?

Mark: Not since grade school. Valentine's Day has always been a day you are excpected to be the perfect guy. I like to do my "special things" on the not so special days, so they don't seem so cheezy.

Buzznet: Are you telling anyone in particular you love them this Valentine's Day? If so who is it and what makes this person deserve your love?

Mark: My wife of course, because she is always there trying to make me feel better and loving me when I don't treat her the way I should.

Buzznet: What do you do when trying to set the mood for a romantic date? what does the date consist of, where does it take place, what do you wear, cook, listen too?

Mark: It's been so long I can't remember. When we do get out, it is usually dinner and movie. But most of the time we stay in and curl up on the couch and watch a movie. We need the few moments a day alone.

CRAZY SCAM --- someone trying to scam me on craigslist ...

Crazy scammers. This situation I am in pisses me off. I am holding a fradulant check for $4,000.00 ----

I tried to sell a pair of tickets for a show this past weekend on Craigslist. I made my post, did my thing and got contacted by someone named Engr.Walter Mate. He (or she) said they wanted my two tickets and not to sell them to anyone else. So I did just that and told Engr to send me a money order or cashiers check by Thursday at 2:00 pm PST.

At Thursday at 2:00 I still had received no check and I had been asking Engr for his/her contact information First/Last Name and phone number, but I had gotten no response. Engr kept sending me ridiculous emails Thursday night and Friday, just telling me sorry for any inconveniences or delays. I was a bit confused considering the show was the next day and there was no way that I was going to get mailed a check and be able to do this exchange in time. On Saturday Engr finally emailed me with a phone # +447031858397. All of this made me realize that I should just go to the show, none of these email exchanges with Engr were going to result in anything.

So with that said --- I decided to write Engr Friday night and say FUCK YOU, because I was annoyed.

Anyway --- this whole story is really boring, but then today I got a package with a check for $4,000.00 from a Harry Smith. At the same time of receiving the package I got an email saying:

Behind Closed Doors with Chris Walla (from Death Cab for Cutie)

It is pretty "cool" to catch up with an artist on the day of their first solo album release, but then again it is just pretty cool to catch up with Chris Walla all together. Probably should have talked more about music with him, but instead pried more into his personal life ...

Buzznet: Do you have a morning bathroom routine? If so what does it entail from when you get out of bed until you are dressed for the day?

Chris: Whatever it is – shower or toilet it always involves the radio. I have these little radios in every room in the house. I think that is as much a routine as anything else. Always have the radio cranked up!!

Buzznet: Who was your first kiss? Details ... How old were you? Where were you?

Chris: My first kiss was when I was 15. It was at a horse show in Olympia, Washington… I used to show ponies when I was kid. I really didn’t know what was supposed to be happening and there were a lot of teeth. To this day I would say it was pretty fantastic, the sort of thing that any film maker would have wanted to write about in a film. The sky was beautiful, sun had just gone down in the middle of an empty street. Really cool, really good.

Buzznet: What do you have hanging on your walls in your bedroom? Posters? Artwork?

Chris: Only one thing on the wall in the bedroom. And that is a painting my Carson Ellis, it is a painting of insects, sort of still life insect study, pretty big pretty dramatic slightly creepy.

Buzznet: Do you have any fetishes? Any pet peeves?

Chris: No fetishes to speak of. There are kind of a lot of pet peeves. Well it's, the dumbest littlest things. If the Britta pitcher doesn't get filled up all the way. If there is not enough water in the Britta pitcher, for me to make a pot of coffee. For the most part I am a pretty decent person to live with.

Buznet: What is the first quality you look for when attracted to someone?

Chris: Confidence. Some sort of optimism. They are not exactly one thing, but they sort of tie together. Confidence and optimism is the first deal breaker for me.

Buzznet: What do you wear to sleep at night?

Chris: Just a t-shirt usually.

Buzznet:  Do you have a nickname?

Chris: Not really… a lot of people call me by my last name. My dad had a series of nicknames and some started to stick to me… they just were not good.

Buzznet: What was your first job? What was your worst job?

Chris: First job I don’t really remember. My worst job, I for sure remember that. I was a janitor for only about 6 months, I cleaned this computer ship manufacturing warehouse and among other things I cleaned the hot room, which was really a drag and probably against a whole bunch of laws. I was living in Seattle.

Buzznet: If you could be in the Summer Olympics which sport would you compete in? Any why?

Chris: I don’t even know what half the sports are in the Summer Olympics. I think I understand the Winter Olympics a little more. If the question was about the Winter Olympics I could say something. I kind of hate the water. I won’t swim; I haven’t been in the water since 1990.

Buzznet: What song do you know every word to, but be totally embarrassed that you know so well?

Chris: I don’t think there is anything I am embarrassed about loving musically. It is one of the things I am the most proud of that I am not embarrassed about anything I listen too.

Buzznet: What text message or voicemail do you regret sending to someone so much that you will never forget doing it? Who was the person?

Chris: In the wake of an artwork debacle – the third Death Cab record – I sent an email to Josh who runs Barsuk, the message was really pretty cold, pretty terrible. I have a real fondness for the word unacceptable, if used in the right way and the right context it is the most powerful word. (For example, if you are on a service call with Qwest- it just never goes the right away.) If you approach the person you are not getting anywhere with, you can just zero in on it. Captipalizing the "u" of unacceptable in an email – which was just meant to express distaste and sadness, is just really unfair. The whole message to Josh was really just; well it was just a nasty incident we had with the pressing of that artwork. It was ultimately nothing more then just a drop of water.

Buzznet: Which era do you most wish you lived in and why?

Chris: I think I am perfectly happy in the present era.

Buzznet: Do you have any scars? If so what happened? If not name one imperfection on your body?

Chris: I have two significant scars. One is on the heel of my left hand. It was given to be my one of my friends in the 4th or 5th grade, he was swinging a push broom at me with apparently some real intense harm and in my trying to block the push broom with my hand, the head of the nail tore through the heal of my hand, in a particular unharmonious way. There is that.
Also ... in my left hand I cut about a dime size chunk off my middle finger with about a dime size blade. Part of why there are not many guitar pieces in the last Death Cab for Cutie album.

Buzznet: If we gave you sourdough bread and you could put anything on your sandwich what would it be?

Chris: Oh um a sandwich! I think I made my favorite sandwich in all human history just two days ago. The Pete's smoked tofu, a few slices of yellow bell pepper, few slices of cucumber, spinach, little bit of garlic powder, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, a copious amount of veganaise and some horse radish mustard. Oh and the bread has to be toasted.

Buzznet: When you hear the word “oatmeal” what is the very first thing that comes to your mind?

Chris: Maple syrup. I think that is sort of the perfect oatmeal companion.

Behind Closed Doors with PlayRadioPlay!

Daniel Hunter is PlayRadioPlay! -- the one-man electronic-pop band from Texas. He's played shows with bands like Fall Out Boy, Gym Class Heroes and Anberlin. Find out what Daniel does when his fans aren't around.

Nothing unusual, wash my face, brush my teeth, iron my socks, etc.

2. Who was your first kiss?
I was in a boat somewhere... not exactly sure where... or who...

3. What do you have hanging on your walls in your bedroom?
It's funny that you said "Posters" and "Artwork" because I have framed screen printed show fliers, so I guess they're both.

4. Do you have any fetishes? Pet-peeves?
I have a fetish for any girl eating smelly indian food.

5. What is the first quality you look for in the opposite sex?
The face as a whole.

10. What song do you know every word to, but are embarrassed to admit?
Every Blink 182 record...

11. What text message or voicemail do you most regret sending?
I've sent a very private text message to the perfectly wrong person before...

12. Which era do you most wish you lived in?
Here and now. I couldn't live without computers.

13. Do you have any scars? Body imperfections?
I was shot by a 22 in the knee.

14. If we gave you sourdough bread and you could put anything on your sandwich what would it be?
First, I would give you the sourdough bread back, and slap you across the face. Then, I would get some wheat bread and put ham, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and sweet onion dressing on it.

15. When you hear the word “oatmeal” what is the very first thing that comes to your mind?
The time I was eating oatmeal when September 11th happened.
